Westchester County

Therapist in Westchester — South Asian, Couples & Anxiety

If you are searching for a therapist in Westchester who understands successful South Asian families from the inside — the achievement, the expectations and what it costs — Rubina may be the person you have been looking for.

She works with clients across Westchester County, from White Plains and Yonkers to Scarsdale, New Rochelle and Mount Kisco, mainly through secure online sessions. That means no hunting for parking in downtown White Plains and no explaining to colleagues why you are leaving early. You log on, close the door and finally say the things you have been holding.

When everything looks fine from the outside

Many Westchester clients are doctors, engineers, lawyers, finance professionals and business owners. They chose these towns for the schools and the space. From the outside, it all worked. Inside, it can feel like a performance that never ends: the right activities for the children, the right house, the right answers when relatives call from India or Pakistan.

Rubina hears versions of the same sentence often: I have no reason to feel this way. That sentence keeps a lot of people from getting help for years. Feeling anxious, empty or angry in a life that looks good is not ingratitude. It is usually a sign that you have been living by everyone else's measure for a very long time.

Three concerns Rubina hears from Westchester

These are composites, not real clients, but they reflect what people in this area most often bring:

The high achiever who cannot rest

A senior professional in White Plains sleeps five hours, answers emails at dinner and feels a jolt of dread every Sunday evening. Nobody would guess she struggles. Anxiety therapy and burnout therapy helped her see where the pressure started and how to step out of it.

The marriage running on autopilot

A couple in Scarsdale have been married fifteen years. They co-parent well and barely talk otherwise. One wants to fix it, the other thinks this is just what marriage becomes. Couples counseling gives them a place to discover whether they want more, and how to build it.

The parent caught between generations

A father in New Rochelle is losing touch with his teenage son and feels judged by his own parents for being too soft. Family therapy helps three generations talk without the conversation turning into a verdict.

Discreet, private and on your schedule

In smaller towns, privacy matters. You may worry about running into a neighbor in a waiting room or about another parent at school finding out. Online therapy avoids all of that. Sessions are confidential under law, and nothing is shared with employers, schools or family without your written permission.

You also do not have to arrive with a polished story. Some clients start by reading from a note on their phone. Others sit quietly for a minute before they begin. Both are fine.

Evening and Saturday times are available, which helps clients who commute into Manhattan or work hospital shifts. Ask about current availability when you reach out.

What sessions look like

Westchester clients usually meet Rubina online over a private, secure video link. You need to be physically in New York State during each session, which is easy from home or the office. In-person sessions in New York City are also possible if you prefer to meet face to face.

Individual sessions are 50 minutes and couples or family sessions an hour. Sessions can be in English, Urdu, Hindi or Punjabi. The practice is private pay; see the fees page for current rates.

Questions people ask

Do you have an office in White Plains?

No. Westchester clients work with Rubina online, or meet her in person in New York City. Online sessions mean no commute and no waiting room.

Can you see both my partner and me if we work in different places?

Yes. Each of you can join the same couples session from your own location, as long as both of you are in New York State.

Do you offer coaching instead of therapy?

Yes. Some clients want a forward-looking, goal-focused approach rather than clinical therapy. Rubina offers life coaching for women alongside her therapy practice.

Will this show up with my employer or insurance?

The practice does not bill insurance, so nothing is sent to an insurer or employer. Your records stay with the practice.
