LMSW, CASAC
Professor Rubina Singh, LMSW, CASAC, is a social work professor at Dominican University New York and a practicing therapist, as well as the founder of Reflections with Rubina (reflectionswithrubina.com). She works at the intersection of education, mental health, and lived experience, supporting students and clients who are navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship stress, and major life transitions.
In the classroom, she trains future social workers to sit with hard stories, honor people's cultural and personal backgrounds, and help them build lives that feel worth living again. In her private practice and online presence, she speaks directly to people who feel overwhelmed by life and "barely holding it together," offering them validation, practical tools, and hope.
Her connection to this talk topic is both professional and deeply personal: she has spent years listening to people's pain and helping them turn struggle into empowerment and forward motion.
Empowerment in the middle of depression, anxiety, and struggle is a teachable life skill, not a personality trait or a miracle. Rubina shows how we can teach small, realistic practices that make it possible to carry life when it's heavy.
Blends clinical insight, social justice, and real-world stories from her work with students and clients, framing mental health not just as an individual problem, but as something shaped by culture, systems, and stigma.
Her approach shifts from "fix yourself" to "let's build the skills and support around you," offering hope and practical tools to those who need them most.
"Life isn't easy and your pain is real, but you are not powerless—you can learn and practice the skills, supports, and mindsets that help you carry life and move forward."

My core idea is that empowerment in the middle of depression, anxiety, and struggle is a teachable life skill, not a personality trait or a miracle. Instead of telling people to "be strong" or "stay positive," I want to show how we can teach small, realistic practices—like asking for help, building tiny routines, setting boundaries, and connecting to community—that make it possible to carry life when it's heavy. Coming from social work, I also frame mental health not just as an individual problem, but as something shaped by culture, systems, and stigma. What makes this talk new is the shift from "fix yourself" to "let's build the skills and support around you," blending clinical insight, social justice, and real-world stories from my work with students and clients.

Yes. I have spoken as a professor and mental health professional in university classrooms, campus events, professional trainings, and online spaces. This includes lectures and workshops on social work, mental health, depression, anxiety, empowerment, and resilience with students, fellow professionals, and community members.
